Bronx born and raised, with the scars to prove it.
I’ve got a typical story in that sense. You know what I mean… “Not every one who walked my path made it”, “dead or on jail”, blah, blah, blah.
What I know is that when I listened to those who knew, I succeeded, but when I followed those who didn’t, I suffered. I have a summer spent locked up as a teenager to prove it.
I graduated from a public high school, lasted a year in college, and have been figuring out what’s what ever since. There was a time when, just about every day, I would intimidate myself, scared of not “reaching my potential”. I don’t know what the hell that actually meant, to be honest, but just about everyone in my life was eager to share the insight with me.
I’ve competed professionally in MMA, own multiple businesses (My martial arts academy for the last 20 years), wrote a book on Tribe, homeschool my kids with the Mrs, run a successful coaching program and mastermind group, and as far as I can tell… I’m just getting started.
I now pay attention to lessons life teaches me, and am grateful for the chance I regularly get to share them with my Tribe and Allies. I’m still discovering new and more powerful ways to climb my ladder, and am grateful that my approach reflects both the love and pressure in which it was forged.
Now, years later, I realize I should’nt have been listening to them in the first place.
I’ve spent years finding wisdom in both new mentors and old. As a married, father of four, I now understand why my pops had two jobs and seemed to never sleep and am forever grateful for the excuse-free attitude he modelled every day.
